Break out the broom!
The NJ Renegades won their 1st round playoff series with a clean sweep of the Philadelphia Jr Flyers. Game 1 at Aspen Ice saw the Renegades beat the Jr Flyers 7-5. Then the Rens Jr team crossed over into Pennsylvania on Sunday night and won in dramatic fashion winning a thrilling sudden death overtime victory 5-4. Veteran Renegades player Chris Tommins drove wide on the Jr Flyers defense and took an off angle shot that hit the near post then the crossbar followed by hitting the far post all in one shot as the puck them dropped behind the Jr Flyer goaltender Phillip Ailmeyer. The Jr Flyer goalie kept the game this close as the Renegades out shot the Jr Flyers by a 53-21 margin. This victory by the Rens ended the Jr Flyers season and moved the Rens Jr team into the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Up next will be the #1 team in the league, the Central Penn Panthers. "They didn't finish in 1st place for no reason. They are a solid team, well coached and this will be the ultimate test for our boys" stated Head Coach Cliff Graziano Jr. "We swept them back in January and it was a physical series. We will have to step it up big time now as the Panthers are aware of what we are capable of". Needless to say we WILL be ready!"
The winner of this series not only moves onto the league championship, but also gets a bid to the USA Hockey National Championship tournament held in Marlboro, Mass. Assistant Coach Chris Ceransky says "We are in a very good position right now, we need to take advantage of it. The boys deserve the best for all their efforts this year. We're all looking forward to next weekend".
The Renegades will travel to Lancaster, PA this Friday March 12th as the Panthers host game 1 at 7pm. The 2nd game of the series will be held at Aspen Ice, the puck drops at 4:15pm on Saturday March 13th. If game 3 is needed in this best-of-3 then the Rens will head back to Lancaster on Sunday March 14th for a 1:30pm game.
Go Renegades!
